BostInno Approved: The Week's Top Tech & Startup Events in Boston



It’s only been a week into Spring, and Boston has already experienced all four seasons. If you're looking for some stability within this uncertainty, you've come to the right place. As always, here's this week’s BostInno Approved.

Monday, March 27

Design Thinking Crash Course: This informational event is hosted at General Assembly on Summer Street, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30. The skill-building workshop will be led by Jason Goodwin, the director of Innovation Practice and Enablement at the Lab of Forward Thinking. Attendees will learn how to use step-by-step practices and mindset strategies to satisfy consumer needs. Tickets are $40.

Tuesday, March 28

She Geeks Out is hosting its monthly meetup, with sponsorship from Toast. Women are invited to Toast's headquarters at Hatch Fenway from 6:00 p.m. to 9, for networking, raffle prizes and a panel discussion. It is $10 to attend.

The Inaugural Developer Pitch: Pitch to find your next CTO/ tech team: Held by the Entrepreneurship Club at Harvard Business School, this free event invites startups to pitch their company to groups of coders. If you’re lucky, you’ll end up with a new tech team, or even a CTO. The event is held at Batten Hall at 125 Western Avenue, Boston, from 4:30 p.m. to 6:00. It is free to attend.

Xconomy Forum: Robo Madness 2017— A.I. Gets Real: Beginning at 1:30 p.m. artificial intelligence enthusiasts are invited to Google’s Cambridge office to Xconomy’s third annual robotics and A.I. conference. Top executives from Boston Dynamics,  Mass Robotics, Techstars Boston and Lola will be in attendance. The event is sold out, but you might be able to grab tickets at the door at $350.

Launch Smart Clinic with Beantown Beacons and Eumotus: From 5:30 p.m. to 8:30, Launch Smart clinic will host an investor-style pitch session for early stage startups. Presenters will get feedback from panelists and the audience. The interactive event is held at MIT Tang Center, and tickets are $20.

Wednesday, March 29

Code in the Brewery: Come to Harpoon Brewery Beer Hall at 306 Northern Avenue, Boston, from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 for a night of lightning talks, crash courses and brews. Innovators in attendance will learn about Boston’s innovation community, and its intersection with day to day lives. Speakers include Lauren Lockwood, the chief digital officer of the City of Boston, and George Foreman III, founder of The Club. It is free to attend.

DV+UX: Framework for Matching User Needs to Data Visualizations: This free and open to the public event is hosted at CIC Cambridge from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30  Learn the behind the scenes of data and analytic products, including the intersection of UX and data visualization. It is free to attend, just make sure to RSVP.

Intro to SEO: Stop by General Assembly Downtown from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 for an introduction class on search engine optimization. Attendees will learn about actionable strategies, basic principles and impact measures related to SEO. Tickets are $65.

Thursday, March 30

MITx DesignTech Summit: This third annual summit is held at Fidelity Labs in Boston from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Learn from various industry leaders as they discuss design thinking and design principles from a competitive perspective. The closing keynote is from Harry West, CEO of Frog Design, who will speak about the “Industrialization of Design.” Tickets for members are $125, and tickets for non-members are $195.

General Electric Advanced Manufacturing Showcase: Join Philippe Cochet, GE’s Chief Productivity Officer, at Artists for Humanity from 3:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. GE’s executive team will explain the company’s recent strides toward advanced manufacturing technologies, and the future of work. There will also be a panel discussion and startup showcase. The event is free, RSVP here.

Innovations in Life Sciences: Venture Café Kendall will host Life Sciences Night, from 3:00 p.m. to 8. The night will feature office hours with venture growth experts, roundtable discussions, startup demos and a shark tank session. Those interested in the latest drug and therapeutic developments will have the opportunity to network, as well. It is free to attend.

Friday, March 31

Entrepreneurship Here and Abroad: Organizing for Social and Economic Impact: Hosted at Babson College, the 11th annual National Dominican Student Conference will run from Friday at 3 p.m. until Sunday at 2 p.m. There will be a variety of Dominican student groups, as well as networking opportunities with speakers and companies. Tickets range from $25 to $75.

Research and Innovation: Ed-Tech, Personalized Learning & the Digital Divide: This sold out event is held at MIT from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Learn about the latest innovation within the edtech industry, such as personalized learning and evidence-informed practices. This event is sold out.

Venture Fast Track: Fundraising Bootcamp for Early Stage Entrepreneurs: Meet over 30 of Boston’s top investors in this intensive full-day seminar. Attendees will learn about the stages of fundraising, and leave with an understanding of how to raise early-stage capital. The boot camp is from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Nutter, McClennen & Fish, LLP, at 155 Seaport Blvd, Boston. Tickets are free for members, and tickets for non-members run from $165 to $215.
