February may be winding down, but it seems that Boston’s techies are always turning up. Check out this week’s BostInno Approved, and yes, National Margarita Day is in the mix.

Monday, February 20

Former Google Executive: How to Become a Star Performer in Tech? Join Richard Liu, a former engineering director at Google and an entrepreneur, for this chat on how to excel in tech. It runs from 12:30 p.m. to 3, and is held at Ray and Maria Stata Center, in Cambridge MA. The event is free.

Other than that, it's a pretty light day for events, enjoy your day off! ICYMI: The ICA is free on Monday, in honor of President's Day.

Tuesday, February 21

2017 Marketing Trends: Fad or Future?: Come talk to marketing experts about different channels of communications, such as Facebook Live and Instagram stories. This free event is held at General Assembly Boston, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30. Speakers include Sasha Wolfanger, growth marketing lead at BookBub, Cole Dachenhaus, a management supervisor at Hill Holliday, and Alana Brookfield, a social media strategist at Living Proof. This event is free.

Making Business More Human: Behind the Scenes at Wistia: Black Tech Boston hosts this event geared toward those interested in learning more about Wistia and business operations. There will be two main speakers: Chris Savage, CEO of Wistia, and Sarah Mei-Estrada, the manager of Customer Champion Team. This event is free.

Licensing and Technology Transfer for Life Science and Tech Companies: This event, hosted by Boston Entrepreneurs Network, is held at Pivotal Labs from 6:00 p.m. to 8:45. Attendees will learn about licensing technology from institutions and research establishments, as well as strategy basics. Along with set speakers, the night includes startup presentations and networking. Tickets are $10.

Virtual Meetup: Staying Safe - Overview of Free Encryption Tools: Boston Entrepreneurs and Tech Industry hosts this virtual meetup over Google Hangout, from 1:00 p.m. to 2. It will cover Off-the-Record messaging, email encryption using Pretty Good Privacy, and Tails. The event is free.

Wednesday, February 22

Tip of the Diversity Iceberg: Refresh Boston hosts this free event at 101 Arch Street 9th Floor, Boston. From 6:00 p.m. to 9, meet other diversity advocates looking for a solution to monotony in tech. There will be free dinner, networking and Q&A opportunities. The main speaker will be David Delmar, the founder of Resilient Coders. This event is free.

Are Employee Non-Competes Really Enforceable?: This event is open to the public and features attorney and law professor John R. Bauer. He’ll be answering the when, why and how in regards to Massachusetts Courts enforcing employee non-competition agreements. The talk is held at Cambridge Innovation Center, from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. It is free.

Cybersecurity and Industry Vulnerabilities: Tech Talk: Hang out with Tech in Motion Boston from 6:00 p.m. to 8 to hear about cybersecurity from expert panelists. Speakers include Jennifer Sand, of Cloudlock and Esmond Kane, of Partners HealthCare. It is held at Laugh Boston on Summer St., and the event is free.

TUGG It Forward: Evening of Service Benefitting Science from Scientists: This free event is kid-friendly, and invites volunteers to help out in the city of Bedford from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30. Visit TUGG (Technology Underwriting Greater Good) portfolio nonprofit Science from Scientists, to help clean and curate their science kit library.It’s free to attend, but there is a cancellation fee if you reserve a spot and don’t show up.

(Honorable mention: Celebrating National Margarita Day with After Hours Business Social: If you’re nearby or willing to make a trip, visit Waltham for this themed networking event, hosted by Eventology. The business social runs from 6:00 p.m. to 9. Tickets are $15 if you buy online, and $20 if you buy at the door.)

Thursday, February 23

February Stitch and Pitch: Held at WeWork, Stitch and Pitch hosts this event for the craftiest of the techies. Bring your knitting materials (or coloring materials, they don’t judge), from 6:00 p.m. to 8 for some unconventional networking. This event is free.

Women Entrepreneur’s Speaker Series hosts a how-to-pitch workshop from 6:00 p.m. to 9, at UMass Lowell Innovation Hub. The seminar will be conducted by Linda Plano, president of Plano & Simple. The event is free, but you have to register by Tuesday, February 21.

CODE RED Official Launch: Minorities and Diversity Advocates in Tech: SAIA Ventures holds this launch party from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30, at District Hall. CODE RED is a “community of minority founders, entrepreneurs, senior executives, and investors from across the globe who are passionate about diversity and inclusion,” reads the event page. Tickets are $20, and spots are limited.

Friday, February 24

MIT FinTech Hackathon: This first annual FinTech hackathon, hosted by MIT Sloan FinTech Club, runs from 5:00 p.m. on Friday, to 12:00 p.m. on Sunday. You and your team will get 30 hours to solve challenges, and compete for over 10K in prizes. Even cooler- you will have the chance to design something that will be used by TD Bank and Prudential, the event’s two sponsors. It is held at Cambridge Innovation Center, and tickets are $15.

ConVERSE-ing New Directions: Poetry + Technology: This event invites those with a love for poetry, art, tech, entrepreneurship or all of the above for free food and networking.Tr?badour, a poetry startup, will be hosting the event from 5:30 p.m. to 8 at Boston CIC. Wear business casual, and expect a passionate panel about poetry’s landscape. The event is free.

2017 MassDiGI Game Challenge: Held at Microsoft New England, this challenge welcomes aspiring game developers. It begins at 9:00 a.m. on Friday, and runs till 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. There will be prizes, educational opportunities, an Indie Game showcase, and networking. Registration for this event is over.

Swiss Sciences Night: From 6:30 p.m. to 9, swissnex Boston will be hosting a networking event with featured leading industries and universities from Switzerland. Companies in attendance include Disney Research, The Swiss Re Group, the University of Basel and the University of Zurich. It is held at The Visual Arts Center at MIT. For those looking for career opportunities, rumor has it that there are over 100 job openings, so RSVP for this free event.

Saturday, February 25

Cannabis Career Institute hosts an event from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Marriott Boston Logan Airport. The seminar welcomes those interested in becoming leaders in the Cannabis industry and covers edible and growth operations. By the end of the day, attendees will have a certification from CCI. Tickets run from $350 to $500.
