Here's a highly curated list of reasons to leave your warm apartment this week for Boston's frozen tundra. Including one where pants are optional. Enjoy.
Dropkick Murphys drop a new album
Jan. 6 – Forever synonymous with this city and its sports teams, it's hard to appreciate the Dropkicks as an actual band that, you know, releases new music from time to time. It's been years since their last album. Perhaps it's time to give them another shot?
Frozen Fenway
Jan. 7 – Catch BU as they take on UMass followed by BC facing off against Providence. No Bruins action this year, but hey – it's hockey in Fenway. What's not to love?
Winter Farmers Market
Jan. 7 – Cambridge – Those New Year's resolutions aren't going to stick to themselves. Grab yourself some fresh locally sourced produce and start brining your damn lunch to work already, okay? (There's one in Somerville, too.)
Bridal and Wedding Expo
Jan. 7 & 8 – Wilmington – Congrats on your very stressful engagement! Do yourself a favor and get to Wilmington this weekend, where vendors will be clamoring for your business. Pro tip: try negotiating.
One-Minute Play Festival
January 7 to 10 – Boston Playwright’s Theatre – Sit down and relax for a continual showcase of short plays, all centered around the theme, "Nasty women strike back!" Sounds entertaining to say the least.
YMCA Frozen 5k Road Race
Jan. 8 – Quincy – Will it be cold as all get-out? Probably. Will you be totally glad you did it once you're sipping hot chocolate at the finish line? You bet. Bring the kids.
Soft Pretzel Sunday
Jan. 8 – Bone Up Brewing – "Every Sunday we serve bigass, super fresh, toasty-as-hell soft pretzels from Fat Boyfriend Bakery - $5, served with beer cheese (made with Extra Naked!) and local mustard. Available from noon 'til they sell out!" Whoa.
No Pants Subway Ride
Jan. 8 – Pemberton Square – Get your ass downtown to partake in one of Boston's most beloved/loathed traditions. Please note: No pants doesn't mean no underpants. You've been warned.
Guster
Jan 12 to 15 – Paradise Rock Club – The band that formed at Tufts 25 years ago is playing The Dise. Definitely worth attending ... if you can find tickets.
