BostInno Approved: The Startup Events to Know About This Week (7/13-7/20)

The temperatures are rising, and Boston networking events continue to heat up. As always, we rounded up the week's best tech and startup meet-ups, and there's a diverse array of options—from a panel on driving diversity to a foodie demo.

Here are the events you should pencil in for this week:

Monday, July 13

Startup Next DemoDay at HubSpot — Startup Next Boston (recently acquired by Techstars) is hosting an investor demo day to wrap up its spring program and showcase the eight startups that participated. Those eight startups represent a range of industries—from edtech and marketing tech to cleantech and IOT—and will be pitching to attendees. Raj Aggarwal, founder and CEO of Localytics, is the keynote speaker for the event, and will be sharing his entrepreneurial story. Register here.

Tuesday, July 14

LunchSpotting 3.2 at LogMeIn — LunchSpotting was created by Matter Communications and MITX to connect Boston’s innovation economy—from entrepreneurs and executives to VCs, media, and prospective employees—in a fun, “no expectations” kind of way. At this installment, LogMeIn’s VP of People and Talent, Dena Upton, will kick things off before a casual and social lunch. Space is limited so register here.

Tech, Drugs and Rock n’ Roll 2015 — Boston University's 6th annual networking event presents an opportunity to meet like-minded people, explore new ventures and celebrate the intersection of the local medical, technology and business communities with food and live music. Representatives from the Boston University research community will display the latest advancements and technologies in their field, the vice president and associate provost for research of Boston University will present an Innovator of the Year award, investors will be setting up booths for you to ask questions and glean info, and a mobile app contest will be running as well. RSVP here.

Wednesday, July 15

Talent Hackers Boston — This event series is designed to encourage and inspire the recruitment community to leverage tech/creativity and hack the talent challenge. For this installment at the Microsoft NERD Center, get ready to delve into how your company can prioritize diversity within the hiring process and company culture, from attracting a more diverse pool of qualified candidates to building a more diverse talent pipeline. Panelists hail from MassChallenge, OpenView Ventures, Maxwell Health and Raizlabs, to name a few. Register here.

Urban Beach Bash at Christopher Columbus Park — Kick back with summer food, lawn games, food carts, frozen treats and music at this event for the Boston startup community (and specifically geared toward interns/recent grads). Nosh on fried dough or savor some shaved ice while you make new friends with startup founders, VCs and other innovation leaders. Did we mention there’s mini-golf? Not a bad way to meet your new hire, co-founder or investor. Register here.

Hack Night!Women Who Code teamed up with GSN Games for this event in Boston’s Financial District by South Station. GSN Lead Developer Jess Loeb will host the meetup, showing off some cool tricks of the trade focusing on memory and performance improvements. Bring a laptop and charger so you can optimize your own projects while you’re at it. There will also be plenty of time to network, snack, and show others what you’re working on while asking or offering for help. RSVP here.

Thursday, July 16

Meet@Markley: The Importance of Network Visibility — Head over to the Markley Group for a free networking lunch along with a presentation on how and why companies can use aggressive monitoring strategies to protect against downtime and performance issues. RSVP here.

Tech @ the Test KitchenAmerica's Test Kitchen is hosting this event in Brookline Village to bring together digital professionals who are passionate about food and cooking for an evening of networking and discussion. Food and bevs will be provided, as well as a live "foodie" demonstration in the publication’s kitchen focusing on gluten. Space is limited, and the event is for professionals in the UX, Visual Design, Software Development and Digital Marketing space only. RSVP here.
