Once again, thousands of local techies, startups and entrepreneurs will be taking over City Hall Plaza for TechJam—Boston’s only outdoor innovation event—on June 11. But there’s a lot more to this 21+ tech block party than pitch contests and networking opportunities—local musicians, artists and food trucks will also be on site to round out the entertainment.
As for the TechJam 2015 band and entertainment lineup, five bands and performers—all with members who work in the local tech industry—will take the stage from 4 to 9 p.m. to get the crowd going: M-Cue, a producer and sound designer for video games who makes tracks ranging from grimy, scathing beats to luscious, thick orchestrations; Cadenza, live musician performance with music accompaniment app by Sonation; Jalopy, a deep funk, soul and acid-jazz jamband; The Rockmores, big hearted smart rock; and The Rocket Band, classic rock. These musicians are also repping a range of technology companies, including Google, HP, Harmonix, FKA, Communispace and Dyn.
And of course, TechJam wouldn’t be complete without some quality grub to fuel guests through all the innovation exhibitions, festival-style activities and games hosted by over 75 tech companies. This year’s food trucks include local favorites like Roxy’s Gourmet Grilled Cheese, Bon Me, The Pizza Goddess, The Cod Squad, Taco Party and Sabroso Taqueria. To wash it all down, Harpoon Brewery will have plenty of beer flowing.
“We’re not just another networking event – we’re using awesome collaborations with experiential, tech-driven entertainment to bring the community together in a really fun way and we're all excited to be a part of it,” said Ben Maitland-Lewis, Music and Entertainment Director of Boston TechJam and CEO of PrettyInstant.com, in a press release.
In between bites, brews and live music, attendees will also be privy to a one-of-a-kind display from Circus for Construction: a traveling space for housing and experiencing works of art and architecture. The truck will feature two projects from artist and MIT graduate Anne MacMillan, RIPS and the Open Seating project.
“People oftentimes view art and technology as two separate entities, but these disciplines are inherently intertwined,” added TechJam Creative Director and East Coast Catalyst principal David Polcaro. “A recent graduate of the Art, Culture and Technology program at MIT, Anne is proving that art and technology work hand in hand—combining creativity and innovation to produce unique, interactive experiences that are going to awe and inspire Tech Jam attendees.”
