Another startup has moved into Hardware Park.

Max Klein, a lifelong serial entrepreneur who has been involved with a number of startups and companies across the country, has opened his newest venture, AutoMowBot, in Birmingham and is looking to refine and produce his product utilizing tech talent in town.

AutoMowBot will manufacture an automated lawnmower for residential and small commercial use, and it is currently in the prototyping phase.

Klein said autonomous lawnmowers are already available in the marketplace from large manufacturers like Honda and Husqvarna, but they require physical boundaries to be installed on the property for the mower to work. Klein said he aims to use GPS-accurate technology to eliminate the need for a boundary, and he plans to make the product more user-friendly in general to set him apart from his competition.

Klein is looking to hire additional hardware and software developers to help him do that, and he said Hardware Park has been beneficial in that process.

“Really, what I need to do for the next couple months is attract developers. That’s going to be through contract work. So I need to contract developers who can help me run with really high-precision GPS programming and then also (develop) a user-friendly app,” he said. “Those two things will be pretty crucial, and I’ve been in talks with a few people who Daniel (Bolus) connected me with through Hardware Park, so it’s already proven to be a hotbed of connections for me to make this happen.”

Hardware Park has been attracting businesses in the past several months with several local companies, as well as some from outside the region, leasing space at the location. Klein said Hardware Park serves as a necessary space for AutoMowBot as it serves his needs for warehousing and further development of the product. He said he is open to seeking out capital investment for his product as well.

Klein, who is CEO of AutoMowBot and currently is the sole employee, has been living in Birmingham for three years and has been involved in multiple ventures, including organizing mountain bike races and managing Amazon returns for a local company.
