The founder of a California-based startup came to the Magic City for the first time in 2022.
At the time, Kai Fraizer was in Birmingham as a keynote speaker for Ed Farm's Future of Learning Summit. She became inspired by the opportunity she saw to implement her startups' technology in Birmingham City Schools. The startup, Kai XR, is an educational platform designed to increase classroom engagement.
She made the move to Birmingham and is now establishing roots for her company, which aims to disrupt the edtech space.
"As far as a business perspective, Birmingham has limitless opportunities as (it) continue(s) to grow as an innovation hub," Fraizer said of the city's strengths. "The students are bright and the educators are eager to learn new skills to support their scholars."
To create sustainable pipelines that being new innovations into the city, Fraizer said she looks forward to seeing more scalable and sustainable models for those interested in doing business within the school system and beyond, adding that "through community collaboration, the sky is the limit."
And as for Kai XR, Fraizer hopes the startup will "usher in the future of education."
"We have the pleasure of creating new educational content for teachers while focusing on nationwide problem spots such as elementary math and STEAM opportunities for those in underserved communities," she said. "To do so, we look forward to hiring Birmingham's best and brightest as we aim to create a platform shaped by community input. In addition, Kai XR is extremely interested in partnering with the state and city, as well as local foundations that share a common vision of building global citizens and innovators through our education system."
