A California-based startup recently made the move to the Magic City.
Kai Frazier, founder of KaiXR, is establishing roots in Birmingham for her company, which aims to disrupt the edtech space.
Kai XR is an educational platform designed to increase classroom engagement.
The startup is growing engagement using the technologies students know and love. It specializes in making "future-facing" technologies — such as virtual reality, augmented reality and artificial intelligence — accessible. Frazier said it helps students develop critical skills, such as problem-solving, critical thinking, digital citizenship and more.
"By introducing emerging technologies to students safely, and at an early age, they are better prepared for a highly technical future," she said.
Frazier came to Birmingham for the first time after she was invited by Apple’s Korri Jackson to serve as a keynote speaker at Ed Farm’s 2022 Future of Learning Summit. After speaking to Birmingham teachers, Frazier said she realized there was an opportunity to implement the technology in schools and improve her product at the same time.
Kai XR’s first school district was Birmingham City Schools. She now visits classrooms there about once a week.
