A Birmingham-based gener8tor accelerator has appointed a new leader to its team.

Prosper Healthtech Accelerator tapped Amanda Williams as its new program manager.

In the role, Williams will be responsible for overseeing the organization and execution of the accelerator program, including investor relations, regional strategy, events and more. A program manager fills a major leadership role within an accelerator — similar to a C-suite executive within a company.

“(Williams') blend of startup operations experience and passion for community building make her an ideal fit for this role," said Kellie Clark, managing director of Prosper Healthtech Accelerator. "We look forward to seeing her initiatives unlock the full potential of our road map to make Birmingham’s health care ecosystem the best in the country.”

Clark, a former local CEO at AppThink, stepped down recently to also accept her leadership role in the accelerator.

Williams’ prior experience includes spearheading end-to-end program frameworks at Innovation Depot where she managed the organization’s pre-accelerator. Her approach emphasized community and collaboration and driving results for early-stage founders.

“Having seen firsthand the power of an accelerator program to catalyze growth and collaboration, I’m excited to contribute my experience to support Prosper Healthtech Accelerator’s mission to invest and accelerate founders who are reimagining in health care," Williams said.

The accelerator invests $60,000 into five high-growth startups per cohort transforming health care. Especially competitive teams will be able to demonstrate their commitment to improving the the city's ecosystem through job creation, job preparation and job access. Accepted startups take part in the intensive 12-week, cohort-based accelerator program, which includes one-on-one coaching, mentorship-driven programming, $1 million in deals and perks and connections to the gener8tor network of mentors and investors. To date, the program has hosted 15 companies from around the country. Five relocated to Birmingham in fall 2022.

The most recent cohort is made up of:

  • Green Bay, Wisconsin-based insurance platform AppEase
  • Birmingham-based mastectomy bra-fitting tool KnowBra
  • Chapel-Hill, North Carolina-based video-to-speech lipreading technology LiRA
  • Whitsett, North Carolina-based culturally sensitive health hub Oma
  • Los Angeles-based mental health platform Sanitas Health
