Birmingham's tech and startup community will soon have access to a free remote workspace that fosters networking and collaborating with peers.
The initiative, BHM Interchange, is a partnership between Birmingham Bound and Landing.
"With many studies consistently showing that in-person collaboration helps accelerate innovation, we believe BHM Interchange will be another key gathering place for Birmingham professionals to collaborate face-to-face," a Landing spokesperson said.
The name was inspired by an interchange being defined as a transfer of cars from one railroad to another at a common junction point.
"Nestled under the railroad tracks that run through the heart of downtown Birmingham, the Interchange is a place for those at an intersection of work, or those charting their own startup path, who need a space to land," Birmingham Bound's website states.
BHM Interchange is located at the Landing annex at 9 20th Street N. and has limited availability. Those interested must apply on Birmingham Bound's website to use the space.
Hours of operation are Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. The space will feature desks, three phone booths to serve as quiet spaces for calls and free coffee. Conference rooms are also available to be reserved.
"One thing that differentiates Birmingham as a city from other startup ecosystems is our extremely supportive community, and that's a direct result of companies like Landing who continually look for ways to give back and support our founders and tech workers," said Maria Underwood, president of Birmingham Bound. "We know that remote work has so many benefits, but that it can also be isolating. BHM Interchange removes the barriers of cost so that finding community can be free."
