A home improvement marketplace company founded in Washington, D.C., is launching in Birmingham after taking part in the Techstars Alabama EnergyTech accelerator.
Founder and CEO Jessica Majno made the announcement at the Techstars Alabama EnergyTech accelerator on Dec. 6. Majno added that she already made three Birmingham hires during the accelerator program.
"We are in market already with our first customers in your neighborhoods in downtown Birmingham, Homewood Vestavia, Pelham — those are just a few and we are just getting started," Majno said.
Idyllo's goal is to provide homeowners with vetted referrals based on their home and preferences.
"I'm taking a run directly at incumbent solutions like Angie's List and Thumbtack, because frankly speaking, they aren't working for homeowners or for vendors, and that is a huge market opportunity," Majno said.
What sets Idyllo apart is its "city teams," which are hired solely to determine the best vendors in categories including siding, roofing, painting, lawn care, energy systems and more.
"Our bet financially, is that homeowners will be willing to pay a small curation fee to connect with the best vendors and do work in their homes with people that can trust," Majno said.
Homeowners download the app, explain what they want to get done and are provided with curated recommendations based on their home, goals and preferences.
