A Birmingham-based medical device company is expanding its distribution throughout the Middle East, Asia, Europe and North America.

The company, Rampart IC, specializes in radiation shielding and orthopedic protection, and it recently signed five distribution agreements.

Medpoint Technologies Ltd, headquartered in Israel, will distribute Rampart IC throughout Israel and Palestine. PrismTech, headquartered in Hong Kong, will handle distribution in Hong Kong. Heart Beat Medical Supplies, headquartered in Dubai, will distribute throughout the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Kuwait, Oman and Egypt. Oryx Medical, headquartered in Toronto, will distribute within Canada.

Rampart IC has existing distribution agreements in place with medtech distributors serving medical facilities throughout Europe, Australia and New Zealand and Japan.

The Rampart M1128 is a device developed for interventional cardiologists but has found its way into several interventional specialties. Because ICs and their teams spend extended time in catheterization labs, their occupation has a high level of radiation exposure. ICs often face debilitating injuries resulting from 20 to 30-pound lead aprons traditionally worn to reduce radiation exposure.

The Rampart IC is used by American health care systems including Ascension, Sutter Health and Northwell. The technology has also been adopted by medical institutions including UAB Medicine and Emory University Healthcare System.

“Rampart’s global mission is to protect as many interventional teams as possible,” said Tom Livingston, Rampart IC CEO. “This year we have expanded our partnerships with several companies, all renowned in their home countries for sourcing and providing the best medical equipment to practitioners. We are proud to come alongside them and make Rampart IC more widely available, facilitating quality care for patients while protecting the health and safety of interventionalists.”

Ruben Cohen, CEO with Medpoint Technologies Ltd., called the technology a "game changer."

“Oryx Medical is excited to bring Rampart to Canada and help better protect Canadian interventionalists,” said Trevor Doran, managing director of Oryx. "We are passionate to deliver innovation to our health care partners and Rampart is delivering game-changing protection around the world. We’re proud to represent a technology that will provide greater protection today and reduce long-term health risks to health care professionals simply doing their jobs.”
