A Birmingham-based company, Nia, has been accepted into a Huntsville-based accelerator program.

Gener8tor recently named the 10 startup companies selected for its fall 2022 gener8tor Huntsville Investment Accelerator and gBETA Huntsville Accelerator. Both programs provide a range of support, mentorship and access to venture capital for startups seeking to grow their businesses.

gBETA Huntsville’s fall 2022 cohort kicked off Sept. 29. The seven-week accelerator is designed to help startups access the networks and resources needed to build venture-backable and economically impactful companies. The startups will receive individualized coaching and access to a national network of mentors, customers, corporate partners and investors.

The five Alabama-based startups include:

  • Nia, which is a Birmingham-based company using technology to scale burn care and can accept insurance reimbursement for its services
  • PoP Therapeutics, which is developing medicine with samples taken from extreme environments
  • Harmony Dx, which is is developing an inexpensive and fast way to test for STDs at home
  • Restorasis, which is based in Anniston and is working to help people discover their personal rest deficits and avoid burnout
  • Green Acre Pharms, which is creating CBD oils and gummies to improve health

The news comes after Nia received a $50,000 grant from the Magic City Match program this summer, which it planed to use it to establish a corporate office space and set up operations in Birmingham. The company also recently participated in Alabama Launchpad.

The Huntsville Investment Accelerator kicked off on Sept. 15 with five startups participating in gener8tor’s 12-week investment accelerator and receiving $100,000 of seed capital, access to gener8tor’s international network of mentors and investors and entrepreneurial training and support. The companies selected for the Huntsville-based program are:

  • BevLive, a beverage platform that helps wineries with their DtC, distribution, retail and restaurant business
  • Poligage, a Washington, D.C.-based Delaware C-Corp that connects users to policy and government affairs experts via its online marketplace
  • Sunset Vibes Swimwear, a Delaware C-Corp swimwear company founded in Los Angeles
  • Urban Eatz, a Houston-based delivery app that began catering to underrepresented restaurants, food trucks and home-based businesses and is now looking to expand to Alabama
  • Zaden Technologies, a Huntsville-based company that delivers DevSecOps Infrastructure-as-a-Service for the defense and space industry

Startups were recruited from around the world with each competing in an application and interview process and selected from among hundreds of applicants because of their performance in four key elements: team, traction, product/service and market opportunity.

Both accelerators will conclude in December with showcase events highlighting each of the 10 startups. Founders will have the opportunity to pitch their companies to investors, community partners and the public.
