The Meta Huntsville Data Center campus will be expanded to nearly 3.5 million square feet with the addition of two new buildings.
The original campus was built in 2018.
The expansion brings Meta to a total investment of more than $1.5 billion in Huntsville, and upon its completion, the data center is expected to support more than 300 operational jobs, according to an announcement on social media.
“Huntsville has proven to be a great home for our data center and we are excited to be expanding even further,” the announcement said.
As previously reported, the Huntsville project slowed at the onset of the pandemic but it expanded the scope of the project with the company now building two additional buildings on top of its initial two-building $750 million data center investment.
Meta is also funding two new grants totaling $300,000 in support of local schools and STEM education. The company is providing $225,000 in support of the Raise Your Hand program with The Schools Foundation, an initiative that aims to add 500 new National Board Certified Teachers to the Huntsville City, Madison City and Madison County school systems. It is also providing $75,000 to the Alabama School of Cyber Technology and Engineering in support of STEM equipment for the school.
