The Innovation Portal has named Todd Greer as its executive director, effective March 1.

The Innovation Portal is a nonprofit incubator and innovation hub accelerating startup growth in the Gulf Coast region. The portal provides a growth-focused space and community for entrepreneurs, innovators and creatives to work and connect as well as targeted programming to encourage successful launch, development and scaling of local ventures.

"After serving as a member of the board of directors and watching the exciting growth in our entrepreneurial ecosystem, I am overjoyed to join the team at Innovation Portal as we, daily, work to support founders and small business owners here in South Alabama,” Greer said. “Joining with our partners, both public and private, we will continue to lay a strong foundation for the business future in our region.”

Greer previously served as the vice president of economic affairs at the University of Mobile. During his tenure, he developed programs in the School of Business, help launch the Doctor of Nurse Anesthesia Practice program as well as leading academic programs, support services and fiscal oversight of seven schools. He also led IT and library services as well. He holds a doctorate in organizational leadership with a major in human resource development from Regent University.

He has also served as a board member and instructor for several local organizations including the Minority Business Accelerator, I-Corps, the Mobile Area Chamber of Commerce Young Entrepreneur Academy, the United Way of Southwest Alabama and Mobile United. He currently serves on the boards of Innovation Portal, Real Advice Mentoring Program, Springboard to Success, Inc. and ForMidtown. He is an advisor to many local startups and nonprofits as well.

“Todd’s experience, coupled with his enthusiasm to help build an entrepreneurial community in Mobile, will be an asset to the Innovation Portal,” said Henry O’Connor, board co-chair for the Innovation Portal. “Our board looks forward to working with Todd as we grow entrepreneurial leaders and provide them the skills for future success.”
