A company that manufactures its product in Birmingham has secured a deal with the University of Alabama with a goal of sparking environmental change.

SolarFi, a company that provides solar powered kiosks and pods, is working with the University of Alabama to provide the student body a new option than just sitting inside with a desk and lamp.

SolarFi, which creates its pods at Hardware Park, said the deal brings students self-contained pods to study and relax in. Their pods, called Privé, are solar-powered and combine technology, renewable energy and health. The pod is equipped with solar panels, electrical charging points, HEPA air filters, ventilation and cooling systems.

"I'm excited to partner with a world-class university that is synonymous with winning championships,” said Antonio Dixon, CEO of SolarFi. “With solar energy and the Internet, we will empower students to study in nature without losing power."

This is not first deal SolarFi has secured in Alabama. The company partnered with the Magic City Classic, presenting pods designed for business and sales purposes. The company also worked with Alabama Power to create a solar-powered pop-up bar in a fully contained pod. The company also has received funding from the city of Los Angeles to help them further their business. As a result, they aim to have SolarFi pods at the Super Bowl.
