A news aggregation app that will soon launch has major ties to Birmingham.
Former Trump administration staffers, including the former president’s son Donald Trump Jr., are launching news aggregation app MxM (minute by minute) News. The app is a free news aggregation app that can curate stories from different sites across the ideological spectrum.
Birmingham firm Telegraph Creative is serving as an equity partner in MxM News and has branded the new company, designed and developed the app and is leading the marketing and promotional efforts.
Cliff Sims, CEO of Telegraph Creative, served in the Trump Administration as the deputy director of national intelligence for strategy and communications and is an equity partner in the project.
“There’s an entrepreneurial spirit at the heart of what we do at Telegraph, so we’ve established several equity partnerships with early-stage firms, giving them a world-class creative and marketing team right out of the gate and giving us an opportunity to participate in the upside as we have success together,” Sims said. “MxM is a perfect example of that dynamic. With MxM, we were confident the product would fill a void in the marketplace and the founding team could get to scale quickly. Acquiring users is a big — and often expensive — challenge for most companies. We knew MxM would drive massive user growth right off the bat and the monetization opportunities will come with that scale.”
For Birmingham, Sims feels that Telegraph’s work with MxM is a big win, which is something that the city needs. He said Shipt has changed the perception of what’s possible here..
“One great thing about the tech community in Birmingham is there’s a real rising-tide-lifts-all-boats mindset. The more success one of us has, the more success we will all have,” he said. “That was the thinking behind the SlossTech conference that Telegraph partnered with TechBirmingham on for several years. So MxM’s early — and hopefully sustained — success will continue to show the country that Birmingham’s tech and entrepreneurial ecosystem is thriving and growing.”
Once the app launches, Telegraph will stay on and serve as the tech and marketing team for MxM’s tech. It will also continue developing new features for the app and ensure the continued growth of its user base. The company has the staff to engage. The company’s headcount has tripled in the last couple of years and is projected to continue to grow.
“Our reason for being is to create art with a job to do, meaning we produce the highest level of creative work but understand that the most important thing is for it to produce results for our clients,” he said. “MxM will continue Telegraph’s growth in the dev space, which is being led by our CTO and partner Kenny Kung.”
