For 2022, Alabama Inno compiled a list of Startups to Watch, focusing on the young companies in the state that have garnered capital, customers or ideas that will work well in the state’s existing ecosystem.
While the future is certainly not written, the startups on this list have demonstrated a passion and a determination to become successful and rockstars in the state.

The company uses technology to streamline the prescription fulfillment process. HealNow’s platform is integrated into a pharmacy’s electronic records workflow to create a communication and payment conduit between patient and pharmacy. Now that the company has established itself in Birmingham, which has a large health care presence, a close eye should be kept on HealNow.

What started as an idea for a business competition has developed into a full fledged company. Kulture Xchange is an online bazar to outsource minority-owned beauty and wellness products. The idea for the company came from MaKayla Smith, a student from Montgomery, which in turn gained attention when selected as an award-winner in the Tiger Cage Business Idea Competition sponsored by the Harbert College of Business. That also led to her inclusion in the New Venture Accelerator program.

ResBiotic, which produces a supplement that targets the gut-lung axis, was developed in founder Vivek Lal’s Pulmonary Microbiome Lab at UAB with research and expertise from the UAB’s Microbiome Center, Lung Health Center, and the Translational Research in Normal & Disordered Development program. The company has spun out a drug development arm and launched its first health product dubbed resB Lung Support. The company has also raised over $7.5 million in capital in 2021.
