Several Alabama cities saw growth in tech the tech sector with a rise in job postings in June.

According to the latest tech jobs report from the Computing Technology Industry Association, or CompTIA, the state of Alabama had 4,804 tech job postings in June, marking an increase of 1,192 from May.

Birmingham saw 1,212 tech job postings, which is an increase of 282 from the previous month. Birmingham has seen 4,722 postings through the first half of the year.

Other markets in Alabama also are seeing an increase. Huntsville had a larger share than the Magic City with 1,814 postings, marking an increase of 479 from May. Montgomery had 745 postings, an increase of 180 from the previous month. The top metro for tech job postings in the country was New York City, with San Jose having the largest increase in June.

The CompTIA report showed employment in the tech sector is continuing to expand with companies adding 10,500 new workers in June and more than 80,000 through the first half of 2021. Nationally, the most positions available are software developers, IT support specialists and web developers.

Earlier this year, CompTIA reported the state’s tech sector employment is expected to grow by 1.8% in 2021. The earlier report projects an increase of 2,620 new tech-related jobs in Alabama for the year, which would take total employment in the sector up to 151,000.

The metro’s tech industry has reasons to be bullish going into the latter part of the year as businesses continue to reopen. Initiatives in the city to develop tech employment have been strong, and the recent announcement by Landing to bring over 800 jobs to Birmingham shows the tech industry is continuing to make an impact.
