Benson Capital Partners is making another investment in the Birmingham area.

Benson Capital Partners, a venture fund created by Gayle Benson, who is the owner of the New Orleans Saints and New Orleans Pelicans, has invested $3 million in Birmingham startup Wyndy.

“Mrs. Benson’s vision behind our fund is to invest in promising Southeastern startups like Wyndy,” said Mike Katz, the fund’s managing director. “Not only is Wyndy poised to aggressively grow its babysitting business, but now has the opportunity to expand to additional industries in need of technology to match skilled labor with talent.”

The startup, created by Tommy and Ginger Mayfield, offers a mobile app that makes it convenient for families to find, book and pay vetted, background-checked college babysitters. Since launching, Wyndy has put almost $3 million into the pockets of Birmingham college students alone, according to company leaders.

In order to keep up with rising demand, Wyndy wants to approve at least 1,000 new sitters in Birmingham, Nashville and New Orleans.

Benson Capital partners recently invested in another Birmingham startup Prepaid2Cash, leading an investment round of $5.1 million and is the driving force behind the Birmingham Squadron, the G League basketball franchise that will tip off later this year.
