Q&A with Zac Young, founder of Vulcan Line Tools
Vulcan Line Tools was founded in 2019 and has eight employees.
What does innovation mean to you?
To me, innovation is challenging the current way of doing things and being correct in our assumptions. Some people refer to it as being a "right contrarian," which I believe accurately describes innovation.
What ways has your company innovated and/or created meaningful impact?
I think our software, Azmyth, is very innovative. We are able to use 360 images to measure power poles, so we can ride down the road, take pictures and measure everything in the image. Current methods of measuring poles involve walking to each pole and manually taking measurements.
We've created meaningful impact in the industry/community by being men and women of our word and doing what we say we will do. It's impressive how far that and a good work ethic will carry you. We have also assembled a "scrappy" team that's hungry to prove themselves and have a chip on their shoulder. Our guys might have been overlooked at other companies but are shining at VLT.
What else do you want people to know about your company?
Our motto is "figure it out" which sums us up pretty well. We believe there is a solution to every problem, you just have to figure it out. This mentality is what has led to our early success and relentless drive to continue trudging forward despite "getting kicked in the teeth daily", which is something you face often working at a startup.
