OpenVia provides smartphone-based access control for properties with retrofit devices that tie into any existing access controls.
Some of OpenVia's accomplishments include raising $1 million from angel investors and institutional venture capital firms; developing iOS and Android mobile applications; launching Virtual Callbox, a video intercom solution; launching Parcel+, which provides package delivery drivers temporary property access; integrating with smart lock brands; building data feeds with property management software systems and serving dozens of customers across the multifamily and commercial segments.
What is the most important thing your company accomplished in the past year?
We've matured our product lineup quite a bit, evolving our company from a single-product company to a full-suite solution.
What is a short-term and long-term goal for the company in 2024?
Short term: While we've got quite a few customers, we're still looking for true product-market fit. The economy has shifted priorities for many of our clients, so it's important that we continue to look for novel solutions and markets for the products we offer.
More long term: We hope to grow substantially in the coming year. To support that growth, we're planning to expand our team and potentially raise additional funding.
What makes Alabama unique when it comes to the startup ecosystem?
Alabama's startup ecosystem is small compared to some of the ecosystems in San Francisco and along the East Coast. While on it's surface, this seems like a negative, it's actually a positive attribute — a smaller ecosystem means it's easier to build relationships and navigate the entrepreneurial ecosystem. It's not hard to network your way to industry experts here, and I think that's an under-celebrated attribute.
