2022 was a banner year for Huntress. The Ellicott City firm acquired Curricula, providing its customers with new, easy-to-understanding cybersecurity training, and doubled its overall revenue to just over $40 million.
"We're really, really lucky," said CEO Kyle Hanslovan. "We're building the right products and listening to our customers. That's what powers our almost 300-person headcount."
The company that provides cybersecurity services specifically for small businesses expects to grow its employee total to 350 by the end of this year, and likely beyond that in 2024 as it moves to widen its international reach. Huntress is also considering a large Series C venture capital raise to support its next expansion, Hanslovan said, although he's waiting to see how the venture capital economy looks before advancing the plan.
The raise would be significantly bigger than Huntress' past raises, which most recently include a $40 million Series B in 2021. Hanslovan said the new capital would likely be used to make more acquisitions and to expand its international go-to-market strategy.
Huntress already has a handful of international customers, but as it looks to expand its footprint, that will mean hiring new team members to create new messaging that more directly responds to the cultures and needs of small businesses in those markets. Target markets include Australia, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
Any new acquisitions would be focused on adding products that meld with and support Huntress' original services. With any addition, Hanslovan said he looks for opportunities to make the products work hand-in-hand.
"It's about not only getting the right tech, but making them interoperable," he said about how his company doubled its revenue in one year.
