Austin Technology Council has selected a new CEO who has a strong background in public speaking, including a TedX talk, podcasts and scores of corporate leadership events.

The local tech organization announced June 21 that Thom Singer will take over its top position, replacing Amber Gunst, who announced earlier this year she would step down to launch her new startup.

Singer, who has a background in marketing, business development and corporate coaching, was most recently director at executive search firm Stanton Chase International. He co-founded New Year Publishing and has written 12 books focused on networking, public speaking and marketing, among other topics.

“Thom has made a career of helping technology companies and associations and will be an inspiring leader for our community as technology continues to drive the Austin economy,” Scott Francis, CEO and founder of BP3 Global and chair of the ATC board, stated. “Who better to connect, network and community build than someone who has made a career out of helping other people make transformative connections in their professional careers?”

ATC, founded in 1992, is a networking and support organization with about 200 corporate members. It has regular roundtable discussions, dinners and featured speaker events. That includes its upcoming 30th anniversary, Battle for Austin Tech and a new event called the Austin Tech Awards. The organization noted that companies can still apply for the awards through July 1.
