Perhaps "we hate to brag" wouldn't be the best way to start this article.

We do, in fact, kind of like to brag about our fair city -- or many of us do, anyway. And we have plenty of support.

The most recent ego amplifier is a report from U.S. News & World Report, which lists Austin as the No. 1 place to live in the U.S.

This is the third year in a row that Austin has landed the top spot on this well-publicized list. In 2016, we came in second place.

Austin was followed by No. 2 Denver, No. 3 Colorado Springs, No. 4 Fayettville, Ark. and No. 5 Des Moines.

Elsewhere in Texas, Dallas ranked No. 21, Houston ranked No. 30 and San Antonio came in at 34.

Here are the top 10 overall.

1. Austin, TX 2. Denver, CO 3. Colorado Springs, CO 4. Fayetteville, AR 5. Des Moines, IA 6. Minneapolis-St. Paul, MN 7. San Francisco, CA 8. Portland, OR 9. Seattle, WA 10. Raleigh & Durham, NC

The rankings are based on local job markets, affordability, quality of life (including crime rates), desirability (based on a survey) and net migration.

Austin scored especially high on desirability, with 9 points out of 10. And net migration was was also exceptionally high -- with a 9 out of 10.

The Austin Chamber of Commerce keep tabs on all of Austin's brag-worthy rankings. Among recent ones are the city's No. 4 ranking as a top cybercity from CompTIA; a top ranking as one of the 15 happiest cities from WalletHub and a top spot as the nation's hottest labor market from the Wall Street Journal.
