Austinites seem to always be on the move. And, despite our reputation for gridlock, people aren't afraid of a little traffic -- especially if they're not driving.
Lyft is one of the market leaders in getting people to and fro in Austin. And it's also one of the few transportation companies that can use its data to get a pretty good idea of what's trending in the city -- at least among the ride-hailing crowd.
In last year's Lyftie awards, the company broke down the top visited restaurant (Torchy's Tacos) and most visited event space (Alamo Drafthouse). This year, they've changed it up a bit, ditching those two and adding top brunch spot, light night restaurant and concert venue. You can see all of last year's top picks here.
Now, let's check out what Lyft data says about Austin riders' tastes.
Most Visited Brunch Spot: South Congress Cafe
It's been a hot spot for years, so we're not incredibly surprised. But with the likes of Kerbey Lane Cafe, Magnolia Cafe and new-comer Snooze, it seems to have pulled off a bit of an upset.
Most Visited Late Night Restaurant: Kerbey Lane Cafe
While Whataburger is probably getting the most late night traffic, you have to be in a certain state of mind to pay for your Lyft driver to bring you through the drive-thru. (But you'll note that Whataburger did take the prize in Houston.) Kerbey, meanwhile, gives the late night crowd a pretty massive menu to deal with most cravings.
Most Visited Late Night Neighborhood: Rainey Street
We might have expected 6th Street or Red River in this spot. But are they really neighborhoods? Probably not.
Most Visited Bar: Whisler's
Since the Inno team has taken Lyfts (and/or Ubers) to this venue after a couple events this year, we're proud to see this one win. It supplanted last year's winner, Cheer Up Charlies, which had ousted 2015's winner (the only other year they did these awards), The Dogwood.
Most Visited Concert Venue: Stubb's
It takes a lot to top ACL Live, Mohawk, Austin360 Amphitheater and Emo's, but Stubb's is one of the cornerstones of Austin's live music scene. Plus, it's well known enough that there are likely a few folks who ask for a drop off there and wander elsewhere.
Most Visited Fitness Studio: Castle Hill Fitness
It's kind of strange that Gold's Gym or LA Fitness, which won Lyft awards in several other cities and have multiple locations and huge workout spaces, didn't take the cake for gyms. But Austin likes to keep it local, and Castle Hill fits that bill.
Only in Austin: Barton Springs Pool
Last year, Bangers Beer Garden took this award. But apparently cold water and sunshine sounded a little better than satisfying the belly this time around.
