The Top Tech Hires and Departures in Austin (February 2018)

Now, here are the most important hires, promotions, departures and layoffs from Austin technology startups from February 2018. If I missed someone, let me know by emailing bwistrom@americaninno.com. 

Driving strategy execution enterprise software provider Khorus Software LLC announced that its board of directors has chosen Carolyn Jenkins as the company’s new chief executive officer. Jenkins comes from Iconixx Software Corporation where she was VP of Customer Success; she’ll replace Khorus founder Joel Trammell, who as of November has been Black Box Network Services’ CEO.

The Austin Transportation Department has a new assistant director of smart mobility: Jason JonMichael. JonMichael previously worked at HNTB Corporation where he served as its national technology leader.

Curtis Hutcheson, a former Dell general manager and a partner at California-based Toba Capital, has been hired as CEO of Infocyte, a San Antonio-based cybersecurity startup. He will likely remain based in Austin where Infocyte is hiring sales people and engineers, the San Antonio Business Journal reports. Toba Capital was a lead investor in Infocyte’s most recent round. Austin’s LiveOak Venture Partners is also an investor.

FloSports co-founder and CEO Martin Floreani has stepped down, and the company’s board has started a search for a new CEO, a company representative confirmed today. In the meantime, Floreani will continue on the company’s board and recently appointed CFO Pat Noonan and longtime counsel Paul Hurdlow, will lead the company during the CEO search. FloSports, founded in 2006, broadcasts a variety of sporting events online and creates content around the events and athletes. It has raised $32.2 million since its founding.

Epicor Sofware Corporation, an Austin company that builds industry-specific software for big comapnies, has hired Colleen Langevin as its chief marketing officer. She was previously CMO of CLEAResult, which focuses on tech solutions for utilities. Before that she had worked at Dell and Iron Mountain.

BigCommerce, an ecommerce platform and software company, promoted Russell Klein to the newly created position of chief development officer. Before this, Klein was co-founder and chairman of Librify, as well as co-founder and CEO of SendMe. He was also an entrepreneur-in-residence at BigCommerce investor General Catalyst Partners.

SoftServe, a digital consulting company with its U.S. headquarters in Austin, promoted Alex Chubay to CTO. He’s been with SoftServe since being hired as a junior developer in 2001. He was most recently software development office director.

Timicoin, a blockchain-based mobile platform for medical records, announced it hired Miguel Esparza as its project manager and CTO to lead its expansion into Mexican and Latin American markets. The company is already working on pilot programs in Mexico City and Monterrey, where its co-founder Ramiro Pequeno was born.

ClearDATA, a cloud provider for healthcare companies, announced it appointed Dennis Hynson as CFO and Sue Darrow as senior VP of human resources. Hynson previously worked as CFO and COO at IntelliCyt. Darrow came from BuildASign.com, where she was chief people officer.

Serenova, a contact center-as-a-service provider, appointed Julian Critchfield as its COO and Matt Despain as its CPO. Critchfield was previously general manager and senior VP at CA Technologies. Before joining Serenova, Despain was at InContact.

Spanning Cloud Apps, an Austin-based data protection company, appointed Ericka Tate as VP of people. She was most recently VP of talent at Headspring. She also previously held HR leadership positions at Simply Hired, Google and Accenture.

Central Texas Angels Network board members elected John Paulos as board chair, Michael Misikoff as board treasurer and Tom Rogers as board secretary. The rest of the board includes Kelsey August, Craig Harris, Rebekah Ryan and John Shaw. Meanwhile, Mark Thorsen has left CTAN for a crypto-focused family office, CTAN reported in its March 5 newsletter. CTAN's deadline to apply for its next funding cycle is March 6.
