Austin's most well-known accelerator and co-working organization is headed to the Big D.
Capital Factory plans to open a 26,000-square-foot space inside The Centrum, a newly renovated development north of downtown Dallas, in the second quarter of this year, D Magazine reported.
The official announcement is expected to come Tuesday when Capital Factory holds its Dallas Diversity & Inclusion Investment Challenge event to award $100,000 to a Dallas-area startup that has at least one executive who is female or a person of color.
The move is the latest in a string of efforts by Capital Factory to increase networking among tech startup entrepreneurs, investors and mentors in Texas' largest cities. In this case, Capital Factory is partnering with the Dallas Entrepreneur Center, which is led by CEO Trey Bowles.
Last year, Capital Factory Executive Director Joshua Baer first announced a partnership with the DEC that provided DEC members with access to a mentor network that ties together Capital Factory and Washington D.C.-based 1776. Following the announcement, Capital Factory members and Austin area investors took a bus trip to Dallas to learn more about the startup scene there and help members of both cities' tech communities make new connections.
Capital Factory has held similar events in Houston and San Antonio.
This is the accelerator's first satellite location outside its downtown Austin headquarters. The location is in a section of The Centrum development called The Annex, which has two floors with 18-foot ceilings and a courtyard, D Magazine reported. Capital Factory will have private co-working desks, classrooms, event spaces and a game room with a VR station.
