Yariv Kaplan, a 42-year-old VP of engineering at Austin's AlienVault office, and his 9-year-old daughter were found dead in their home in an apparent murder-suicide, Travis County sheriff officials say.

The Austin American-Statesman reported that authorities entered the home in southwest Austin Monday and found the two dead. Investigators said evidence suggests Kaplan shot his daughter, Lielle, before killing himself.

KXAN reported that Travis County court records show Kaplan was in the midst of a divorce and was seeking custody of his daughter.

AlienVault, which is based in San Mateo, Calif. but has offices in southwest Austin, confirmed to Patch.com that Kaplan worked for the company. Austin Inno has reached out to the company for comment, but hasn't yet heard back.

Kaplan's LinkedIn page says he was VP of engineering there starting in June this year.

Previously, he said he was a senior engineering manager of big data technologies at Amazon from April 2016 to May 2017, and managing director of Joya Systems in Austin from 2010 to April 2016. He also worked at Blue Coat Systems in Austin from 2005 to 2010, LinkedIn shows. His profile shows he graduated from the Israel Institute of Technology with a computer science and business degree.

Kaplan is listed as co-inventor of several security-related patents while working with Blue Coat Systems, Inc.

Kaplan discussed his role at AlienVault in a July 2017 article in Built In Austin. In it, he noted that his company hired some of the best of the best to build software. Among the traits he said AlienVault job candidates should have include "...You love to teach others and learn. You care about people and your attitude reflects that.”
