Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella will come to Austin next Monday for an on-stage discussion at The University of Texas.
Nadella will be on stage with Danielle Weisberg and Carly Zakin, co-founders of theSkimm, a popular daily newsletter media company.
The event will be from noon to 1 p.m. at Hogg Memorial Auditorium, and it is only open to UT students and faculty members on a first-come, first-served basis. But you can catch it on Facebook Live on theSkimm's website.
Nadella has visited Austin before. He spoke at Dell World in 2015, where Michael Dell said he and Nadella remain friends even though the Microsoft Surface put the company in more direct competition with Dell. Nadella's visit also comes just a few days after Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff criticized Microsoft and dismissed it as a competitor.
Nadella is also promoting his new book, "Hit Refresh – The Quest to Rediscover Microsoft’s Soul and Imagine a Better Future for Everyone."
Nadella has had a few rough moments since becoming Microsoft's CEO in 2014. Not long after taking that job, he suggested women should trust "karma" instead of requesting raises and that their hard work would eventually be rewarded. He quickly apologized for the comment and said he was wrong.
Otherwise, he has been widely admired for his leadership. And Microsoft's stock has risen steadily throughout 2017 as the company rolled out new products and expanded services in the cloud. As a result, Nadella's salary was boosted to $20.01 million this year, including stock awards and bonuses.
Nadella, who was born and raised in India, was executive vice president of Microsoft's cloud and enterprise group before becoming CEO.
