Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg met with several Austin area startup founders at a roundtable discussion at Facebook's downtown offices today before her on-stage conversation at the Texas Conference for Women.

Sandberg met with six business owners to talk about the role Facebook and Instagram in engaging with customers. Those Sandberg met with include:

  • Mikaila Ulmer, founder of Me & the Bees Lemonade
  • Kendra Scott, founder of Kendra Scott jewelry
  • Maggie Louise, founder of Maggie Louise Confections
  • The Garzas, founders of Siete Family Foods
  • Tony Aguilar, founder of Chipperapp
  • Eric Silverstein, founder of The Peached Tortilla

And the meeting wasn't just serendipity.

Those six founders have leveraged social media to boost their brands. Kendra Scott, for example, gained 50% net new followers year-over-year since 2014 -- that's some compounding gains. Maggie Louise was inspired in part by Facebook to start her business after posting photos of her creations on Facebook and getting a lot of engagement.

Also, I understand Sandberg will be sharing insights from her meetings with Austin founders on, where else, her Facebook page.
