Former Vice President Al Gore will be the keynote speaker at a large power and renewable energies conference held just north of Austin in Georgetown in October.
Gore, who has dedicated much of his post vice presidency life to advoating for action and awareness on climate change, will speak at the Texas Renewable Energy Industries Alliance's GridNEXT conference at 12:30 p.m. on the first day of the conference at the Sheraton Georgetown Hotel and Conference Center. Tickets range from $199 to $649.
This isn't Gore's first visit to Georgetown.
The former VP visited Georgetown last August for the Texas for Climate Reality Corps Leadership Training. And Gore and his film crew spotlighted the city for being one of the largest in the nation to get meet all of its energy needs with renewable energy. His conversations with Georgetown leaders is spotlighted in his recently released documentary film "An Inconvenient Sequel: Truth to Power."
“Clean, renewable energy should not be a partisan issue,” Georgetown Mayor Dale Ross said in a news release, “It’s just good business and has been very good for us in terms of having some of the lowest utility rates in Central Texas. We look forward to welcoming Mr. Gore back to our fine city..."
Gore is among several national and international renewable energy leaders speaking at the two-day conference. Aside from speakers, the conference also features a cleantech open pitch contest; and update on smart grid initiatives and discussions about electrical vehicles and cyber-physical security challenges.
