Lyft got a lift from the Texas Legislature this year when lawmakers voted to void local regulations on ride-hailing companies. That gave Lyft, and other ride-hailing companies, the favorable regulatory certainty needed to resume service in Austin.
Now, Lyft has expanded to 10 new cities across Hill Country and the rest of Central Texas. And it comes just in time for eclipse viewing parties.
I'm not sure how many folks will need a mid-day ride to see a the partial eclipse in Central Texas. But new projections, based on anticipated traffic, show it would likely take about 12 hours to drive from Austin to the Path of Totality north of Kansas City -- the closest place to Austin where you could see a full eclipse.
