Startups are typically born out of passion and drive. But they're nurtured by cash.

New money comes in many forms -- profit, preferably. But, for most, the path to startup funding isn't as simple as it may seem when you read the latest news about a tech startup raising a $10 million Series A.

We're here to help, and we're drawing insights from some of the best help in town in the form of David Altounian, an experienced founder and professor at St. Edward’s University, and Stephen Straus, a serial entrepreneur with a new artificial-intelligence consulting firm.

The duo recently penned an expansive essay based on a research project that sought to show Austin's VC scene in detail -- how much the firms are working with and how much they've handed out in deals.

Here, we bring you their research in a slightly different, abbreviated format. View the original work on Medium -- it's worth your time.

But, for now, let's check out Austin's venture capital firms, angel investing networks and accelerators. And, keep in mind, investors are almost constantly seeking new capital themselves -- so these things evolve, even when it's not easily visible.
