Funding wrap: Kizen, Phantom Neuro raise fresh cash

Sales automation and insights startup Kizen Technologies Inc. said Sept. 13 it closed on a $12 million seed round. The company didn't name its investors, noting only that they were private investors, including former C-level executives from Dell, Whole Foods, AT&T, Accenture and Citibank. Kizen, founded in 2018 and led by CEO John Winner, uses a "no code" platform to help companies tailor workflows from sales to operations to customer support.


An Austin startup developing lifelike controls for robotic prosthetics has landed new funding. Phantom Neuro, which launched earlier this year, said Sept. 12 it raised a $6 million funding round led by Time BioVentures, a Los Angeles-based firm led by investor D.A. Wallach, who is also lead singer of Chester French. Other firms investing included Risk & Return, LionBird Ventures, Draper Associates and Breakout Ventures. That brings Phantom Neuro's total funding to $9.5 million. Wallach is joining its board as part of the deal.

Phantom Neuro, which spun out of a lab at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, also announced it has hired Aurel Bouvier as vice president of implantable systems and Erik Lloyd as senior neuroengineer. The company, led by founder and CEO Connor Glass, is developing implantable sensors, artificial intelligence and software to help patients with us prosthetic limbs, as well as exoskeletons.
