Austin-based clinical-stage pharmaceutical company Plus Therapeutics Inc. said Aug. 17 it was awarded a $17.6 million grant to accelerate its cancer fighting radiotherapeutic drug. The funding came from the Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas, which was created by the Texas Legislature and is backed by Texas voters.

Plus Therapeutics (Nasdaq: PSTV) is led by CEO Marc Hedrick. The new grant follows the company's completion of an early clinic trial that is leading to plans for a second trial. The drug targets a late-stage cancer complication called leptomeningeal metastases, which involves cancer spreading to the central nervous system and stems from breast cancer in 3% to 5% of patients.

Closinglock Inc., a locally based financial technology startup in the real estate space, said Aug. 16 it has closed a $4 million seed round led by Austin's LiveOak Venture Partners. Other investors included RWT Horizons and GTMfund. Closinglock, led by CEO Andy White, launched its first product back in 2018. It was a portal designed to protect title companies from real estate wire fraud. Since then, it's added document sharing, e-signatures and loan payoff verifications to its platform.

Austin-based fintech firm Founderpath Inc. has raised $145 million in its own debt and equity funding, TechCrunch reported. The firm, which provides debt capital to software-as-a-service startups, is led by founder Nathan Latka. It has deployed $60 million-plus to 130 software companies since 2020, most of which came in the past 12 months.
