Y Combinator Alum PullRequest Raises $2.3M from Google's AI Fund

Austin-based PullRequest, a startup providing on-demand code review, has raised a $2.3 million seed round, TechCrunch reported Thursday.

The round was led by Gradient Ventures, a new AI fund created by Google. Other investors included The Slack Fund, Fika Ventures, Lynett Capital, FundersClub, Defy Ventures and Liquid2 Ventures, created by former NFL star Joe Montana.

The startup, founded in May this year, left Austin to join the Y Combinator accelerator in San Francisco over the summer. It has since returned and has a total of six employees, TechCrunch reported.

PullRequest doesn't currently have a big AI component, but it intends to automate some of its processes. In that respect, the funding, led by high-profile investors, brings additional attention to Austin's growing AI startup ecosystem. In October, Tethr raised a $15 million Series A, joining SpakCognition, CognitiveScale and Mythic as fast-growing AI startups in Central Texas.

PullRequest was founded by Lyal Avery, and now has 1,000 companies and 1,900 code reviewers, TechCrunch reported.

Its network of code review experts aims to help other tech companies develop and deliver new code more quickly.

After clients request code review, PullRequest runs static analysis of the code, has experts suggest fixes and ask questions and then interacts with clients on the changes. The services range from $99 an hour for its "lite" service. It charges $199 an hour for its pro version for small teams, and it has a $1,999 per month version for larger companies.
