Evva Health CEO Carl Hanna knows the primary caregiver for older adults isn’t their doctors. It’s their spouses, children or grandchildren.

That’s why he created the health technology startup — a platform to help oftentimes inexperienced caregivers give their loved ones the best support they can.

Evva Health is currently focused on helping care for people with dementia, but Hanna sees the startup eventually becoming disease agnostic. Evva Health is in the beta stage and set to launch at the end of this year.

The startup won CodeLaunch’s inaugural Atlanta seed accelerator pitch competition in August, receiving about 40% of the audience’s votes. That experience showed Hanna the importance of the platform.

Now, Evva Health, which is a part of the state’s Advanced Technology Development Center hosted at the Georgia Institute of Technology, is applying for more accelerators as it gears up for launch.

Hanna, who has a doctorate in mechanical engineering from Georgia Tech, founded Evva Health with Saurabh Vyas, a former Deloitte manager and physician, in 2019.

The startup is an example of local innovation in healthcare that builds on the legacy of Atlanta’s leading health systems. Georgia has more than 225 health information technology companies, accounting for about 30,000 jobs, according to the Georgia Department for Economic Development. Evva Health takes a different approach than many of the state’s leading health tech companies — a software service for home care rather than hospital or physician offices.

The platform provides a database of resources for caregivers as well as artificial intelligence-driven recommendations to predict what they may need next. The resources will be localized to each community and include faith organizations and nonprofits.

“The resources for dementia are very limited,” Hanna said. “It’s not a lack of information — the information isn’t personalized to that person and their family.”

Evva Health is pre-revenue during its beta stage and plans to charge $6 per month to access the platform. The startup is working with partners, including Emory Healthcare, to research how to provide free access.
