Techstars Atlanta’s 2021 cohort includes the most local startups in the program's history.

The 13-week accelerator program is a partnership between Techstars, a worldwide accelerator network, and Cox Enterprises, a local media, communications and automotive giant.

This year, half of the 10-company cohort are from Atlanta.

“This milestone highlights Atlanta’s growth in the venture ecosystem since we began our Techstars partnership in 2016,” said Kim Mackenzie, strategy and corporate development director at Cox Enterprises, in a statement.

The accelerator is open to startups worldwide. Program leaders met with more than 1,000 founders and reviewed hundreds of applications before settling on this cohort.

Techstars is one of the most prestigious accelerators for early-stage companies and has a global network of programs. It's often compared to Y-Combinator, Silicon Valley's long-running program in which Airbnb, DoorDash, Twitch and Reddit participated. Acceptance into a Techstars accelerator signals a startup's potential for growth and scalability.

Security startup Bark, a 2020 Atlanta Inno Blazer that raised $37 million, according to Crunchbase, completed Techstars Atlanta. Graphic design startup Sawa and feedback management platform BigTeam, which were both acquired by email marketing giant MailChimp, are also graduates of the program.

The Techstars Atlanta startups will get mentorship through the Cox and Techstars network and graduate the program after an Oct. 18 pitch showcase.

Here are the companies in the 2021 cohort:

  • Focal Point (Atlanta) — procurement software startup for more efficient and secure transactions
  • Hello Audio (San Diego) — audio-streaming platform that allows businesses to share audio with their customers
  • LDR Dates (Charlotte) — virtual dating site
