Amazon has made a commitment to supply Georgia with 1,000 new jobs.

The shipping and tech giant announced the opening of a fulfillment center in Atlanta at a news conference Tuesday with Gov. Brian Kemp. The nearly 700,000-square-foot facility near Stone Mountain will be the first robotics fulfillment center in the state but the eighth fulfillment center the online retail giant has opened in the state in the last decade.

During the announcement, Kemp said the state was happy Amazon has recognized Georgia for the logistics hub that it is and continues to invest in local communities.

"We can't thank Amazon enough for the investments they've made into our state," he said.

The fulfillment center is set to open before the holiday season.

Applications for positions at the center are now open. Last week, Amazon held a virtual hiring event for the facility. Jobs start at $15 per hour and warehouse employees can earn up to $17.50. Jobs range from warehouse, financial and IT positions.

To date, Amazon has created more than 10,000 jobs in Georgia.
