As Covid-19 cases continue to rise in Georgia, schools debate reopening options and mask mandates are discussed, taking a summer trip to the museum probably isn't on the top of your to-do list.
Though many attractions around Atlanta have opted to close due to the recent spike in coronavirus cases or reopen with limited attendance and social distancing procedures in place, one museum has decided to bring the entertainment home.
The Museum of Design Atlanta has launched an online version of its current exhibition "Learning from Nature: The Future of Design," allowing visitors to tour the museum virtually while it is closed to the public.
The tour, which takes visitors from room to room, touches on how designers are finding sustainable solutions for problems inspired by nature, also known as biomimicry. The exhibit was developed in collaboration with The Biomimicry Institute. In addition to the nature exhibit, the online tour features Requiem, a sound installation created by Maine-based sound artist and musician Steve Norton that combines the noises of birds and frogs thought to be extinct.
Thanks to technology from Matterport, a Sunnyvale, Calif.-based 3D imaging platform, MODA was able to launch its first virtual exhibition. The museum has also opted to move field trips and education programs online as well.
Check out a few pictures from the virtual tour below. You can attend the exhibit virtually here.
