Amebous Labs, a Atlanta-based gaming software company founded by a Georgia Tech graduate, will open a virtual reality studio in the city.
The 4,457 square foot studio will be located at 500 Bishop Street in Midtown. The new facility is a $1.5 million investment in the local esports community that will create 12 jobs, according to the Georgia Department of Economic Development.
“After months of preparation, I’m delighted to announce the opening of Amebous Labs,” Founder and Executive Producer of Amebous Labs Annie Eaton said in a statement. “The production team comes from gaming, media, entertainment, education and marketing, and is already knee-deep working on our first game title for consumer launch. We can’t wait to show the world the power of virtual reality gaming and open up the gaming space to new communities and audiences.”
The studio develops immersive and interactive VR gaming experiences. Amebous Labs plans to release its first game title in early 2021. The startup began as a way to create games for everyone. Those interested in applying for joining the Amebous Labs team can apply here.
“Amebous Labs represents a growing trend of investment in Georgia’s gaming and creative economy,” Todd Harris, chair of the Atlanta Esports Alliance, said in a statement. “The game industry needs more games and companies led by women, and we’re thrilled that Annie Eaton and her team have chosen to join metro Atlanta’s growing game development community, expanding upon their already successful virtual reality consulting and services business.”
In a virtual panel at the Southern-Fried Gaming Expo on July 10, Eaton announced the launch of Atlanta's newest gaming studio. The panel explored Amebous Labs' future with the studio's artists and developers. Check out the panel video below.
