Amazon has expanded by another 1.5 million square feet across metro Atlanta and parts of north Georgia, as it continues building-out its same-day delivery network.
Amazon just leased 1 million square feet at an industrial property in Pendergrass, about 45 minutes northeast of downtown Atlanta. Amazon also leased another 500,000 square feet at a smaller facility in Union City just south of Hartsfield Jackson.
The new leases bring Amazon’s total fulfillment center network to at least 13 million square feet across the Atlanta region, almost doubling its size from the end of last year, according to research from Colliers International.
The expansion reflects how Amazon is building-out the infrastructure of its same-day delivery network, with fast-growing population centers such as Atlanta and cities in Texas and Florida seeing most of the new activity.
Amazon also underscores the strength in Sunbelt markets and expected migration to the region from the Northeast and Midwest.
Across Atlanta and parts of North Georgia, Amazon has signed over 5 million square feet of new leases this year alone, according to market research. That does not include renewals at existing properties. For perspective, Amazon's expansion this year has so far accounted for over one-third of the total amount of industrial space Atlanta absorbed all of 2019.
The new projects include:
- Cubes at Bridgeport, Coweta County – 1MSF
- Lanier Logistics Center, Buford, Ga. — 1.1MSF
- Crossroads Business Center, Union City — 1MSF
- Chattahoochee Logistics Center, Fulton County – 1.1MSF
