Illuminarium Experiences, an Atlanta-based “experimental entertainment company” is moving forward with the development of a $2 million virtual reality venue on the BeltLine .
The company, which discreetly raised $14.2 million of a $25.4 million round in November, recently filed a permit application with the City of Atlanta to build a 25,000 square foot immersive entertainment venue at 820 Ralph McGill Blvd. in Poncey-Highland. According to What Now Atlanta, the venue is one of several planned worldwide.
In December, the Atlanta Business Chronicle reported initial news about the venue, “Illuminarium,” that would use a 360-degree digital projection and sound experience to immerse audiences. The project is planned for the Common Ground development along with Two Urban Licks, New Realm Brewery and Bazati Hall.
Initial plans for Illuminarium described it as an experience "similar to virtual reality without the glasses." One of said experiences is an interactive virtual safari that will show exotic animals in their natural habitats. Other suggested experiences are trips to Mars or ancient civilizations. Food and beverages will also be offered at the venue.
Aside from plans submitted to the city, there's been little news on the project. The company's website reveals no details and company executives have been quiet. Atlanta Inno has reached out to the company for comment. We will update this story with a response when it is received.
