Update March 16: After announcing last week it was canceling public events, the Atlanta Tech Village has officially closed. Karen Houghton, vice president of ATV, announced on Twitter this morning that ATV is closed to the public until further notice in an effort to encourage social distancing. Members will have key card access to the building. Here's our original story:
The fourth-largest incubator in the country has canceled all public events and tours as a precaution against the novel coronavirus.
Karen Houghton, vice president of the Atlanta Tech Village, announced in an email and on Twitter Thursday that the incubator was canceling public gatherings in its space. ATV is one of the most frequented spots for local tech events and meetings for the Atlanta community.
"Our intent and heart is to help do our part to flatten the curve and practice social distancing by limiting large events and gatherings of people," Houghton wrote.
As of Friday, the ATV will cancel all public tours, all events --- including Startup Chowdown and Atlanta Startup Village ---, fitness classes and mentor and advisor hours.
Workshops will continue virtually and Pitch Practice is moving to a Google Hangout every Friday at 1 p.m.
The Atlanta Tech Village building will remain open and team members will continue to be on site.
Atlanta Inno will continue to monitor for tech closures, announcements and other news related to the COVID-19 virus as more events and offices close in the city.
