Entrepreneurs, tech founders, investors and community leaders gathered Thursday night at Clark Atlanta University to kick off the third annual Atlanta Startup Awards.
Presented by Startup Atlanta, a nonprofit supporting the local startup ecosystem, the event recognized and celebrated eight of the city’s most successful rising tech companies, startup pioneers and disruptive innovators.
This year's award winners were:
Scrappiest Startup: The Lola - Atlanta's local member club, workspace and community designed for women by women.
Community Builder: Holly Beilin - Director of Engage Ventures
B2C Startup: Steady - The app that allows people to find jobs fast, seek financial advice and save money with deals on everything from healthcare plans to tax help.
Social Impact Startup: Secure Data Kit - A startup that uses data collection and analysis to work with with health organizations.
B2B Startup: RoadSync - A digital payment platform for the transportation industry.
Art of Pivot: Carbice - A nano-materials company that manufactures and sells a new form of carbon that improves performance across a variety of applications.
Growth Stage: LeaseQuery - A lease accounting software startup that help accountants comply with the required accounting standards from the Financial Accounting Standards Board, the International Accounting Standards Board and the Governmental Accounting Standards Board.
Equity Champion: Monica McCoy - Founder of MonicaMotivates, LLC
Founder and CEO of Launchpad2X and Chairman Emeritus of the Atlanta Technology Angels Bernie Dixon and founder of Paparelli Ventures Charlie Paparelli were awarded lifetime achievement awards.
A judging panel and open public voting determined the winners of the Atlanta Startup Awards. After open nominations were submitted for each category, a judging panel including members of the Startup Atlanta Board of Directors narrowed submissions to three to five finalists before making a final vote. The Startup Atlanta Board of Directors is made up of members from the private, public and nonprofit sectors involved in the startup community.
