The VOID, a location-based virtual reality experience company founded in Utah, will open its first Atlanta location at The Battery at SunTrust Park on Thursday, Sept. 12.

The new space, located next door to the Coca-Cola Roxy theater, combines VR with physical stages and multi-sensory effects, including touch and smell. The new location will be open to the public at 800 Battery Ave., Suite 120, Sunday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Friday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to midnight.

The Atlanta location will feature new VR experiences "Star Wars: Secrets of the Empire," a project created by ILMxLAB and Lucasfilm, and "Ralph Breaks VR," by ILMxLAB, created in collaboration with Walt Disney Animation Studios. More experiences, including “Ghostbusters: Dimension,” “Nicodemus: Demon of Evanishment," and original content created by The VOID and  will be available to visitors.

Additionally, the VOID recently announced a partnership with Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield to open more than 25 locations globally by 2022, with two new pop-up locations that recently launched in New York City and San Francisco. The VOID currently has 16 locations globally with 11 in the U.S., three in Canada, one in Dubai and one in Malaysia.

The Void adds to Atlanta’s expanding VR ecosystem. VRGluv, a startup based out of Kickr Labs, is designing a virtual reality glove (and potentially other applications) that allow you to feel things inside VR experiences. Atlanta’s own You Are Here VR lab and Project Ghost Studios, an independent game developer, are also gaining traction in the local entertainment space.

Meanwhile, more arcades and bars around the city are starting to offer VR experiences.
