Amazon confirmed Wednesday it will open a new fulfillment center in Gwinnett County, creating 1,000 jobs.

The site on the Gwinnett and DeKalb county lines had been expected to land the project. Atlanta Business Chronicle reported in May 2018 Amazon was working on a proposed development called Project Rocket. The project moved forward in July 2018.

Seefried Industrial Properties will develop the approximately 700,000-square-foot building, which will pick, pack, and ship customer orders, according to a news release.

In addition, Amazon will hire positions in human resources, operations management, safety, security, finance, and information technology.

Pat Wilson, Georgia Department of Economic Development commissioner, said Amazon already employs more than 3,500 Georgians.
