Atlanta-based payments technology company InComm has acquired Linq3 Technologies, a local tech company that designs, builds and markets products and solutions for traditional and digital lottery gameplay.

Linq3 was founded in 2007 and uses smart systems integrations, technologies and customer products to transform the lottery industry. Most recently, the company revealed a product in September 2018 that would allow customers to play the lottery digitally with the use of a gift card and smart phone.

When asked if the companies would combine, an InComm spokesperson said, “We are still in the early stages of the integration and we are assessing what the strategy will be.”

"There were several factors that drove InComm to acquire Linq3, but we are particularly excited to learn from Linq3’s team of lottery industry experts as we look to grow our lottery business," the spokesperson said.

Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.

“By incorporating Linq3’s pioneering lottery products and solutions with our expansive national retail and payments network, we collectively will be able to deliver new product solutions to create experiences that will engage the consumer – right at the retailer’s point of sale,” Brooks Smith, InComm founder and CEO, said in a statement. “We are excited to add Linq3’s innovative capabilities and proprietary technology to our portfolio of products and services. This transaction brings us an experienced management team with a great deal of industry knowledge that can be leveraged to transform and grow lottery business across North America.”

In addition to the acquisition, InComm has begun integrations with the largest central gaming system vendors in the U.S. and plans to shortly launch a suite of lottery products to its retailers, including point of sale-activated draw games, prize payouts and validations, and prepaid state lottery gift cards, according to a news release.

“Today, state lotteries face many challenges tied to retailer expansion, new player acquisition, and product innovation in an increasingly digital world," Tom Spiegel, CEO of Linq3, said. "Through InComm’s acquisition of Linq3, state lotteries will now have the ability to reach more players through new and current retailers, retailers can realize more revenue by driving new consumer traffic to their locations, and lottery players will benefit from easy, simple and new ways to purchase and play lottery products.”
