Lime, a San Mateo, Calif.-based dockless bikeshare company, officially launched the company's electric scooters in Atlanta on Monday.

According to representatives with Lime (previously known as LimeBike), Lime-S scooters will cost $1 for riders to unlock the scooter and 15 cents for every minute of driving. Lime bikes and scooters are GPS and 3G-enabled so riders can find, unlock and pick up a nearby vehicle with a smartphone.

Lime asks all its riders to leave scooters in designated areas at local businesses throughout the city---not public right-of-ways and sidewalks. Atlantans can use the code "LIMEATL" to win credit to test the scooters for the first time.

Unlike other dockless bikes, scooters and mopeds recently launched in the city, Lime-S scooters are collected by company representatives on a daily basis, charged overnight and redistributed in designated areas the next morning, according to Mary Caroline Pruitt, a Lime spokeswoman.

"This also helps us ensure that they are stood upright and parked responsibly so that they do not block pedestrian right-of-way or obstruct any sidewalks or roadways," she said in an email.

Sidney McLaurin, Lime's regional general manager in the city, will be doing in-person scooter demos Monday at 12 p.m. at Atlanta Station.

“Atlanta is a dynamic, forward-moving city, where smart mobility makes sense. Lime will give Atlantans a choice for affordable, flexible transportation while alleviating congestion and promoting environmental sustainability," she said in a statement.

Lime currently operates in more 70 markets, and is the largest shared bike and scooter provider in the U.S., Pruitt said. More than four million rides have already taken place on the Lime platform since first launching in June 2017.

"We’re excited to offer our newest mobility solution here in Atlanta, and look forward to working with the community to design a scooter share program that can someday serve the entire region," she said.

Lime is just one of several dockless bike and scooter companies to recently launch in Atlanta. In the past month, Bird, Muving and Ofo have also launched dockless scooters, mopeds and bikes throughout the city.
